SHOE CONSTRUCTION

We use two methods of shoe construction: cemented and sewn.

In cemented construction, the soles are glued directly to the insole. This method is the most widely used as it makes for a more flexible and lighter shoe, suitable for most people.

Sewn down construction is when a narrow strip of leather, called a welt, is sewn to the insole and the sole is then stitched to this welt. The welt is sewn by hand and is a very time consuming operation, making these shoes more expensive. This method makes a more rigid sole, which is very strong and prolongs the life of the shoes. Welting is a dying art, mainly because of the cost involved, but we offer this construction for heavy-duty footwear and men's dress shoes.

TOE SHAPES

Extra depth: approximately 6 mm deeper than the standard.

Stiffening: thin flexible (ladies) thick flexible (mens) carbon fibre (safety).
